Dean’s Bear Hunt –
A Story of Strength, Support, and Shared Moments

Day One – Wednesday, September 10th

Excitement filled the crisp September air as F3 members and supporters worked together to transfer Dean from his regular wheelchair into an especially equipped Access Ability Wisconsin outdoor-tracked chair. Every movement was made with care, but behind it was a wave of energy and anticipation—after all, the trail cameras had been buzzing with daily bear activity.

Dean made his way down the rugged trail to the blind, his wife Gail by his side. Once settled in, it was “go time.” The woods were alive, and soon enough, both Dean and Gail spotted bears moving through the trees. The moment was there—heartbeats quickened—but Dean made the choice to pass. Some might wonder why, but for Dean, this hunt was never meant to be rushed. Passing that first opportunity wasn’t a loss; it was a sign. He wasn’t ready for the story to end so soon. The hunt had only just begun.

Day Two – Thursday, September 11th

The following day, Dean and Gail were once again brought to the blind. The team got them comfortable before heading back to basecamp, checking trail cameras along the way. While the bears kept their distance that day, another, much smaller visitor decided to make an appearance.

Out of nowhere, a skunk waddled into the blind, bringing with it a moment of surprise, laughter, and maybe a little nervousness. Thankfully, Pepé came in peace—no spraying, no harm—just another memory added to this one-of-a-kind adventure. Though the bait remained untouched, Dean and Gail still soaked in the quiet beauty of the woods, the thrill of possibility, and the simple joy of sharing this time together.

Day Three – Friday, September 12th

By the third day, anticipation at basecamp was electric. Trail cameras once again lit up with movement—this time confirming what everyone was hoping for. A bear was making its way to the bait. The updates rolled in, and the F3 crew could hardly contain their excitement. Would Dean pull the trigger this time, or would he pass again?

In the blind, Dean steadied himself, Gail close beside him. The moment was raw and real—the kind that makes you hold your breath and remember why you’re there. This time, Dean made his decision. He was ready.

With calm determination, he took the shot. The stillness of the woods broke, and with it came celebration—the harvest of a 130-pound bear. The blind filled with relief, pride, and joy, and back at basecamp, the F3 members erupted with cheers when they heard the news.

For Dean, it wasn’t just about the size of the bear. It was about the journey—the friends who helped him down the trail, the unwavering support of Gail by his side, the close calls, the laughs, and finally, the moment of success.

A grassroots 501(c)(3), AAW is on a mission to ensure that nature is accessible to everyone—regardless of mobility limitations. By offering adaptive equipment reservations —like outdoor track wheelchairs —they enable individuals to explore the outdoors, with minimal disruption to both nature and their freedom to roam.

What’s the 2025 CWF3 Disabled Bear Hunt All About?
Scheduled for fall 2025, this hunt is more than a chance to bag a trophy—it’s a community event built around accessibility, shared stories, and unforgettable outdoor experiences. CWF3’s latest blog paints the picture: trails freshly cleared, blinds checked and made safe, stumps ready, volunteers scouting—every detail meticulously arranged to ensure smooth and safe participation.

How AAW Makes a Difference
By providing adaptive mobility gear, AAW helps remove physical barriers: participants can traverse rugged terrain, access hunting blinds, and immerse fully—safely—in the hunt. Their efforts align seamlessly with CWF3’s mission, where everyone takes part, shares stories, and experiences the joy of nature.

This fall, as dawn breaks over the quiet forest, a custom-built, track-equipped wheelchair will roll along a cleared trail—its rider—the first of many—ready to reconnect with a lifelong love of hunting. That rolling testament to inclusion is thanks to the beautiful collaboration between Access Ability Wisconsin and Central Wisconsin Fur, Fin & Feather (CWF3) .

Getting Ready for the 2025 Disabled Bear Hunt

The countdown is on! Our team here at CWF3 has been hard at work preparing for the upcoming 2025 Disabled Bear Hunt —a hunt that means so much to us and to the hunter and family who take part.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been making sure every detail is ready for opening day. The trails have been cleared, blinds have been checked, and of course, we’ve made sure the stump is full and ready to draw in the big ones. Whether it’s hauling in bait, trimming back brush, or scouting for fresh sign, we’re leaving no stone—or stump—unturned.

This hunt is about more than just the harvest. It’s about creating a safe, accessible, and memorable experience for every participant. Our volunteers and supporters go above and beyond to ensure that each hunt has the best possible chance at success, while also enjoying the camaraderie, the stories, and the beauty of the outdoors.

We’re looking forward to swapping tales, sharing pictures, and hopefully celebrating a few trophy moments. Here’s to an incredible 2025 Disabled Bear Hunt—good luck!

EVENT DETAILS

Meet and greet is a time for the youth hunter to meet their guide and scope out their hunting location
On the day of the hunt, any youth, EVEN if not hunting with an F3 guide, is welcome to stop down at the event to share their hunt and have lunch and drinks provided by F3.
All parents of the youth guided by F3 are more than welcome to hunt with and be part of their youth's experience
All landowners providing land for F3 to hunt are welcome to attend.
(If you would like to provide a spot for a youth hunter to hunt for the day, please contact us )

2025 - 17th Annual Spring Banquet

Central Wisconsin F3 recently hosted their annual banquet, bringing together members and supporters for an evening of camaraderie, celebration, and fundraising. As a dedicated non-profit, Central Wisconsin F3 uses the funds raised from this event to support causes that align with their mission and vision, making a meaningful impact in the community. The banquet not only highlighted their achievements over the past year but also reinforced their commitment to service, leadership, and growth.

Some of the most memorable moments of the evening included presenting Travis with his deer mount, a heartfelt gesture that meant a great deal to everyone in attendance. The event also honored our veterans, recognizing their service and sacrifice with deep appreciation. Another highlight of the night was the presentation of the Dylan Crabb Award to Smith Bros, acknowledging their outstanding contributions and dedication to the community. Attendees enjoyed a night filled with inspiring stories, great food, and generous giving, all contributing to the organization's ongoing efforts to create positive change.

This whole process started a month ago and the wait was truly worth it. Travis was selected for our whitetail hunt and his patience and dedication truly paid off! From practicing at the range to the planning of the hunt took work from all. Last night Travis had the opportunity to harvest this amazing buck with his family at his side. This will be a memory that Travis and his family will never forget and carry in their hearts for time to come!

On behalf of the F3 board congratulations Travis on your hunt! The smile on everyone’s face truly tells the story!

Today was our annual veteran hunt at Little Hills in Gilman. What a hunt we had! The dedication and loyalty that you all have given can never be replaced.

I wrote this speech and asked if i could deliver it during the Veterans Day ceremony at my elementary school. What do you all think?

"The Values That Make Us Strong"

Good morning, Happy Veterans Day. Just in case you don't know I am Mr. Shane, the night janitor. Before I was Sunnyside janitor, I served in the US Army for 8 years as an infantryman. I did 2 deployments to Iraq in 2007-2008 and 2009-10

Today, I want to talk to you about some important values that can make us better people and help us become leaders in our own way. These values are Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, Personal Courage, and Leadership. They are often called the Army Values, but they can guide us all in our daily lives.

Loyalty means being true to your friends, family, and those you care about. It's sticking by their side and being there for them no matter what.

Duty is like your responsibility. It's doing the things you're supposed to do, like your homework and chores, without being told all the time.

Respect is treating others how you want to be treated. It means being kind and polite, even when you disagree with someone.

Selfless Service is helping others without expecting anything in return. It's about being a good friend and lending a helping hand when someone needs it.

Honor is being honest and doing what's right, even when no one is watching. It's being true to yourself and your values.

Integrity means always being truthful and having strong moral principles. It's doing what's right even when it's hard.

Personal Courage is facing your fears and doing what you know is right, even when it's difficult. It's being brave in the face of challenges.

Leadership is about setting a good example, helping others, and making the right choices. You can be a leader in your school or among your friends by being a good role model.

Remember, these values aren't just for the Army; they're for all of us to follow in our lives. By living by these values, we can make our families, schools, and communities better places. We can be strong and kind leaders who make a positive difference.

So, let's all practice these values in our daily lives. Let's be loyal, responsible, respectful, selfless, honorable, honest, brave, and leaders in our own way. Together, we can make the world a better place.
